FILTER CLEANING

One of the most important spa maintenance tasks is cleaning the filter on a regular basis. We recommend doing so every one to three weeks, depending on how often the spa is used. However, in no case should you go longer than one month without a good filter cleaning.

A common misconception among spa owners is that once the filter is dirty it must be replaced. This is not necessarily true, though because filters that are cleaned regularly can last up to 12 months. Check the manufacturer’s guidelines and instructions for more specific information about cleaning your filter.
At some point, though, your filter will need to be replaced. To determine if it’s time to do so, clean the filter normally then look between the pleats. If any grime or dirt particles are still there after a thorough cleaning then it’s time for it to be replaced. Most filters are not designed to last more than 12 months, so if you’re at or near that limit you should consider filter replacement.

We recommend that you keep two sets of filters – one set actually in the spa and the other set clean and ready for use. There are a couple of advantages to doing this.
First, when you have a clean set of filters ready for use you can put them into the spa right away and let your dirty filters to soak for a longer period of time. This translates to a deeper, more thorough cleaning for the filters, plus you can then allow them to dry completely which helps prolong their lifespan. Regular rotation using two sets of filters can extend their useful life from 12 months up to two years.
The second reason to rotate filters is a drastic reduction in spa down time. With a spare set of filters you can take out the dirty set and put in the clean set right away, getting your spa back up and running in no time. If you don’t use a spare set then you’ll need to wait one to two days while the dirty filters soak, get clean and dry thoroughly.

Rotating spa filters helps to prolong the useful life of the filters, decrease spa down time, and keep your spa running smoothly. It’s one of the simplest ways to make spa maintenance quick and easy.
